Giving your PRECIOUS to GOD
Hi friends, I just want to share an experience that I encountered last week during my work as a research assistant. This encounter made me rethink what it means to give God our ‘precious’.
My jobscope requires me to interact a lot with primary school students, particularly primary two children. At the end of our last day in one of the primary schools in the West, a little boy came up to me, looked at me with his innocent, teary eyes and said, “Teacher, this is for you.”
He passed me one of his prized pokemon cards, which he had just traded with his classmates. I looked at him, shocked and asked, “Are you sure you want to give me?” And he just nodded his head.
I was very surprised and touched with his actions because all I did in the primary school was to carry out some activities and testing on the students. I was never there to change or impact their lives! This little action made me ponder about giving our ‘precious’ to God.
Every weekend during cell group meetings and services, we often have a time of offering and giving. However, are we really giving God our precious? Our prized possessions?
Let me tell you why it is important that we really give God our precious. Because if we don’t, we may never experience God’s abundant blessings in our lives! When we give God our ‘precious’, we will touch His heart and cause Him to move in our lives out of His love for us!
When the little boy gave me his prized pokemon cards, I knew that the card meant a lot to him and it was a sacrifice to him as shown in his teary eyes. Even though I may have no need for any pokemon cards, the card that he gave me is now also precious to me. And I had a strong desire to buy lots of toys for him in response to his little gift. At that moment, I suddenly understood how God feels when we really give Him our ‘precious’.
Our God owns the whole earth and He really has no use for the money that we give to Him! Psalm 50: 10-11 says that God owns every animal of the forest and the cattle on a thousand hills; He knows every bird in the mountains and the creatures of the field are His. Why then does God still want us to give to Him our ‘precious’?
This is because when we give God our ‘precious’, the gift also becomes precious in His sight and it moves His heart. Just like our earthly father who gets touched when his little child gives him a gift, the same goes for our heavenly Father! And just like the response of our earthly father, when our heavenly Father is moved by our ‘precious’, it causes Him to have a strong desire to shower us back with more gifts, simply because He loves us so much!
Matthew 7:11 says that if our earthly father knows how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will our Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! This principle in prayer applies also to our giving. When we give God our ‘precious’, God is moved and He can’t wait to bless us back with even greater gifts than our earthly father could ever give to us.
So, are you ready to give God your ‘precious’ today?
